Replaces Physics 262. Optics and Optical Instruments (Geometric optics of lenses and mirrors. Real and virtual images) Applications Speed of Light and Michelson Interferometer (Techniques for measuring very short times and distances) Microwaves (Properties of electromagnetic waves, including wave optics) Electric Charge of the Electron (Classical Millikan oil-drop experiment - quantization of charge) Photoelectric effect (Quantization of energy in the photon theory of light, Determination of the ratio e/h) Radioactivity (Decay of radioactive materials: Half-life, and range of nuclear radiation (alpha, beta and gamma rays))
