The Physics Department of the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications
for tenure-track faculty positions to start September 1, 2008.
The Department seeks individuals with outstanding research and a strong commitment to teaching. Appointments are expected to be at the Assistant Professor level. [Outstanding Associate or Full Professors may consider applying for the separately-advertised endowed Gluckstern Professorship, see www.physics.umass.edu.]
Applications are sought in the following fields:
(a) Biological Physics Experiment. The department is committed to expanding its biological physics group by continuing to hire in this field. Current research includes studies of membranes, biopolymers and molecular motors but the search is open to all fields of biological physics.
(b) Condensed Matter Experiment. The successful applicant will be expected to carry out research in fundamental and/or applied areas of hard condensed-matter physics. Areas of interest include but are not limited to renewable energy devices, nanodevices and nanomaterials.
(c) Particle Physics Experiment. Applications are sought in both accelerator-based experiment, to expand our effort on ATLAS, and non accelerator-based experiment, to enhance or complement present efforts (EXO, LIGO, VERITAS).
