Physics education group http://physedgroup.umasscreate.net/ is looking for an undergraduate assistant for the summer of 2018 to help with lecture prep, develop course materials, and some data analysis.

The TBL group has many interesting projects for the upcoming summer and will be hiring an undergraduate to help with these. The position is 40hrs/wk at $12/hr. The successful applicant will

  • Be responsible for creating the first version of the Physics 132 textbook similar to the Physics 131 textbook which can be seen at https://scholarworks.umass.edu/physics_ed_materials/1/. The textbook you help create will be used for the first time in Fall 2018. For this work, you will get a co-editorship credit. This work involves
    • Writing and editing physics texts
    • Converting videos into textbook sections via transcripts
    • Compiling open resources into a final volume using the CNX editor
  • Help make edits to the physics 131 textbook for the next version
  • Have responsibilities preparing demonstrations for summer courses
  • Help with analysis of data related to the Physics 131 study on attitudes and self-efficacy

The successful applicant must:

  • Have excellent writing skills
  • Have some experience coding in Python
