Muon g-2 experiment at Fermilab

Prof. Dave Kawall's postdoc David Flay is featured in a news article at Fermi National Laboratory in Illinois that highlights a new milestone reached in efforts to map the magnetic field inside the Muon g-2 experiment. The UMass team, which includes undergraduates Kyle O'Connell, Scott Israel, Liam Scanlon, and Anushka Shrivastava, is part of an international collaboration to make a precision measurement of the magnetic properties of the muon. The experiment will measure, to much higher precision, the ratio of the precession rate of the muon to that of a proton in a magnetic field, to test for a possible violation of Standard Model physics indicated by an earlier experiment.
