Abstract:
The astonishing discovery of the Higgs like boson at LHC, and the certainty of an enormous and powerful set of data that will continue to emerge out of the LHC in the coming decade requires a consistent and systematically improvable theoretical framework. Assuming that the Standard Model does eventually break down, this framework is provided by the Standard Model Effective Field theory. I will review the rapid systematic development of this theory that is ongoing and some aspects of how this theory can be used. Emphasis will be placed on the consistently use of current data from LHC, legacy data from LEP and other lower energy experiments, and the upcoming enormous data set expected from LHC in the coming decade.
