Chris Santangelo is the third new assistant professor to come to UMass this fall. Prof. Santangelo is a soft condensed matter theorist who comes to us from the University of Pennsylvania, where he has been a postdoc for the past three years. His research focuses on soft materials such as liquid crystals and polymers and, especially, the role of geometry in the self-assembly of these materials into complex structures. Chris is the winner of the 2006 Glenn H. Brown Prize of the International Liquid Crystal Society. This semester he is teaching Physics 558, Solid State Physics. Welcome Chris!
