New research from Prof. (Emeritus) John Donoghue and collaborator Gabriel Menezes, selected as an Editor's Suggestion in Physical Review Letters, and publicized further on phys.org, reports on the role of the arrow of causality in quantum theory. This effect is hidden in the conventions of quantization and describes how the macroscopic arrow of time arises. This may have interesting implications for the quantum theory of gravity where mixed conventions leads to the violation of causality on microscopic scales.
