Abstract:

The Large Hadron Collider is a top quark factory: it currently produces around 10 top quark pairs per second. This wealth of data has allowed the CMS detector to perform very precise measurements on the production and properties of the top quark. The study of the heaviest elementary particle pushes our understanding of the Standard Model and may offer a window to new physics. I will review some of the latest results and how they can shed light on possible signs of new rare processes involving more exotic particles.
